Restorers, curators, art shippers and art insurers show how museum staff master the enormous task of a museum move step by step.

It is a logistics masterpiece when museum collections relocate. This is because it's not enough to just have a few moving boxes. The objects are taken from their cases, measured, photographed, decontaminated, restored as necessary, packed and transported. Many museum collections are currently moving, especially in Berlin. The Ethnologisches Museum (Ethnological Museum) and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Asian Art Museum) in the city district of Dahlem (Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation)) are moving to the new Humboldt Forum in the reconstructed Berlin Palace.

The following themes will be focused on in the seminar: Which objects need to be moved first? How are the objects to be correctly packed with a view to preservation aspects? What needs to be considered with regard to insurance and transport? Especially relevant is the good cooperation of all persons involved.

Dr Andrea Funck, Head of the Doerner Institut (Munich)
